Julia Scheib (born May 12, 1998 in Deutschlandsberg , Styria ) is an Austrian ski racer . She has been a member of the B-team of the Austrian Ski Association since 2018 and has her strengths primarily in the giant slalom and super-G disciplines .

biography

Julia Scheib comes from Frauental an der Laßnitz and starts for the local ski club. She attended the Schladming ski trade school . At the age of two and a half years she started skiing on the Hebalm, at the age of four she won her first children's races and also impressed students with strong performances.

In the 2014/15 season she competed in her first FIS races and was included in the youngsters' squad of the ÖSV. At the European Olympic Winter Youth Festival in Vorarlberg , she and the team won the gold medal. At the end of winter, she tore the cruciate ligament and meniscus in her right knee and had knee problems after her comeback. At the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer , she won the silver medal in Super-G behind her teammate Nadine Fest .

In 2017/18 Scheib played a full season for the first time since her injury. In December she started in the giant slalom in Hafjell for the first time in a European Cup race. In her World Cup debut in the giant slalom at Kronplatz , she immediately qualified for the second round, which she was unable to finish. A week later she won the gold medal in giant slalom at her first Junior World Championship in Davos and achieved respectable results in fourth and fifth in downhill and super-G. She also won the bronze medal with the Austrian team. On December 1, 2018, she celebrated her first European Cup victory in the Funäsdalen giant slalom . In February 2019 she won her first World Cup points by finishing 24th in the giant slalom in Maribor .

Due to a disease of Pfeiffer's glandular fever , her entry into the 2019/20 season was delayed . In February she achieved her best ever World Cup result with 14th place in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora .
