Christian Walder (born August 31, 1991 in Villach ) is an Austrian ski racer . His strengths lie in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines .
biography
Walder contested his first European Cup race on December 4, 2008 in the Super-G on the Reiteralm . On February 9, 2013, he finished second in La Thuile's Super-G behind the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde . It was his first podium in the European Cup . He celebrated his first victory on January 24, 2014 in the downhill from Val-d'Isère .
Walder made his World Cup debut on December 18, 2015 in the Super-G in Val Gardena , where he did not finish. In his third Super G in the World Cup he was able to place himself in the points for the first time with 29th place in (February 27th in Hinterstoder ). This winter he won a downhill and a Super-G in the European Cup, plus two third places. In addition, he decided the European Cup downhill classification for himself, while he missed first place in the overall classification by two points. The 2016/17 season, in which it was used fourteen times, also started cautiously for the time being, in the fourth from last race he was in the top 20 for the first time with rank 16 (January 28 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ); He did best at the end in Kvitfjell , where he was thirteenth in the first of the two downhill runs and eleventh in the final race, the Super-G (and missed the top 10 by two hundredths). With 84 points, he finished 76th in the overall World Cup ranking.
On March 23, 2017, Walder suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a training fall on the Reiteralm and was operated on the same day.
