Erik Read (born May 31, 1991 in Calgary ) is a Canadian ski racer . He starts in the slalom and giant slalom disciplines , has been a member of the Canadian national team since 2011 and won the overall ranking of the Nor-Am Cup in the 2011/2012 and 2015/16 seasons .

biography

His father Ken Read was successful in alpine skiing in the 1970s and early 1980s, as was his mother Lynda and his uncle Jim. Erik Read has two younger brothers, Kevyn and Jeffrey. In April 2006 Erik Read won the Whistler Cup giant slalom and competed in his first FIS races in November of the same year . It celebrated its first victory in an FIS race at the end of January 2007 and was used for the first time in the Nor-Am Cup a week later . From 2008 to 2011 Read participated in all Junior World Championships . He came in ninth in the combination in 2009 as well as fifth in the combination and sixth in the slalom 2011 three times among the top ten. After Read had achieved several top 10 results in the Nor-Am Cup in the 2010/11 season , he played for the first time in the World Cup on January 25, 2011 in the Schladming slalom , but was eliminated in the first round.

In 2011, Read was added to the Canadian ski team. After he was on the podium for the first time in the Nor-Am Cup on December 9, 2011 with second place in the Nakiska Super Combined , he celebrated his first two victories in the Super-G and in the on the 11th and 12th of the same month Great combination of panorama . With another victory in the giant slalom in Vail and a total of nine top 5 placements, he won the overall standings and the super combination standings of the Nor-Am Cup in the 2011/12 season . He also came second in the Super G and third in the giant slalom classification. He got his first World Cup points on December 14, 2014 when he finished 24th in the slalom in Åre , and at the 2015 World Championships he surprisingly won the silver medal in the team competition . In the 2015/16 season he won the overall ranking of the Nor-Am Cup.

In the World Cup, Read approached the top of the world with a total of four top 10 placements during the 2016/17 season , with a 6th place in the combination of Santa Caterina on December 29, 2016 being his best result.
