Wiley Maple (born May 25, 1990 in Aspen , Colorado ) is a retired American ski racer . His strongest disciplines were downhill and super-G . He won the downhill classification in the Nor-Am Cup in the 2010/11 season .

biography

Maple has been competing in FIS races since 2005 , first appearances in the Nor-Am Cup followed in February 2007. One month later he became the US junior downhill champion. He took part in the Junior World Championships from 2008 to 2010. His best result was a sixth place in the downhill from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2009 . In the Nor-Am Cup, Maple achieved placements among the top ten for the first time in the 2008/2009 season; on February 21, 2010 he stood on the podium for the first time as third in the Aspen Super-G . He celebrated his first victory in the Nor-Am Cup on December 8, 2010 in the downhill from Lake Louise . With another win on February 14, 2011 in Aspen, Maple won the downhill classification of the Nor-Am Cup 2010/11 .

In the World Cup , Maple made his debut on January 15, 2011 in the Wengen Downhill . He won his first World Cup points on December 16, 2011 with 29th place in the Super-G in Val Gardena . At the end of February he had to end the 2011/2012 season prematurely because of a torn cruciate ligament . Maple's best World Cup result so far is 17th in the downhill run from Saalbach-Hinterglemm on February 21, 2015.

For the 2015/16 season , Maple started again in the World Cup. He won the first World Cup points of the season in January 2016 as 26th of the Super-G in Kitzbühel . After placing more points, he finished the season with 21 points in 121st place overall. At the end of the season he started again in the Nor-Am Cup and won the downhill race in Aspen. After remaining without a point win in the World Cup in the following year 2016/17, he again won a total of 18 points in the 2017/18 season , which meant that he was only one last place in the overall standings.

In December 2019, Maple contested his last international race in Bormio .
