Hintermann comes from Bülach in the Zurich Unterland and grew up in Hausen am Albis . His father was a trainer in the Zurich Ski Association and, among other things, looked after the later downhill world champion Urs Lehmann . Hintermann learned to ski at the age of two. At the age of ten he left home for Austria and went to the ski school in Schruns . At the age of 14, he switched to the Stams ski school . However, he found it difficult to find his way around there, which is why he continued his commercial training at the Swiss Sports High School in Engelberg . He graduated from there in the summer of 2017.
In December 2010, when he was 15, Hintermann took part in FIS races for the first time, initially competing in all disciplines. His first victory at this level came two years later when he won a Super-G in Arosa on December 20, 2012 . In February 2013 he was a participant in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Brașov , where he finished 14th in the giant slalom. The first use in the European Cup followed on January 11, 2014 in Wengen . Two weeks later, Hintermann won the Swiss junior championship in downhill and combined. In the 2014/15 season he was gradually able to establish himself in the European Cup, where he gradually specialized more in the fast disciplines. At the 2015 Junior World Championships in Hafjell , he won the bronze medal in the downhill.
Hintermann made his World Cup debut on November 28, 2015 in Lake Louise , where he finished 40th in the downhill. He won his first World Cup points on December 19, 2015 when he was 29th on the downhill from Val Gardena . He achieved his first European Cup podium on March 11, 2016 in Saalbach-Hinterglemm with third place in the downhill. Two days later a third Swiss Junior Championship followed, this time in the Super-G. At the end of the season he surprised everyone by winning the Swiss Downhill and Super G championship titles. In his only twelfth World Cup competition on January 13, 2017, Hintermann unexpectedly won the combination in Wengen: Due to the snowfall, the slalom run had been brought forward. In this he finished 23rd with starting number 51. But in the subsequent downhill race none of those placed in front of him could overtake him. His best World Cup result so far was a 21st place.
