Live and act

Nissan Nativ was born as Nissan Notowicz in Munich in 1922. Some sources also list Amsterdam as the place of birth . Nativ itself was probably the source of this ambiguity. Nativ had two older brothers, Benno Notowitz (1918–1962) and Nathan Notowicz (1911–1968).

First he moved with his family from Munich to Düsseldorf as a toddler and, in the early 1930s, after the Nazis came to power, on to Amsterdam. At the age of only 15, he emigrated in 1937 to what was then the British Mandate of Palestine . In September 1943, Nativ's family was first deported to the Westerbork transit camp before they were transferred to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in February 1944 . Only Nativ's father and two brothers were the only members of his family to survive the Holocaust .

During World War II , Nativ joined the Jewish Brigade , a fighting unit of the British Army made up of volunteers from the area of the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine. He was also a commander in the 1948 Palestine War . After the war, native enrolled at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem for the study and learned during a stay in Paris , the pantomime .

After returning to Israel, Nissan Nativ worked as a theater director and journalist for the public radio broadcaster Kol Israel . In 1963, Nativ founded the Nissan Nativ Acting Studio in Tel Aviv, which is one of the most recognized acting schools in Israel today and produced actors such as Keren Mor , Lior Raz , Ido Mosseri and Mark Ivanir . Despite its fame, the drama school faced bankruptcy several times in the 1990s and early 2000s.

In 2008, the award committee of the national Israel award for theater decided in favor of Nissan Nativ as the award winner, as it had significantly influenced the Israeli theater landscape and culture. Nativ could no longer accept the award, however, as he was found dead on April 20, 2008 in his Tel Aviv apartment after a heart attack. He was 86 years old.
