Stjernesund started participating in FIS races in December 2011 at the age of 15 and was able to win at this level for the first time in February 2013. A specialization in the technical disciplines soon became apparent. Her first appearance in the European Cup was on December 1, 2014 in the giant slalom in Hemsedal , which she finished in 22nd place. In the further course of the 2014/15 European Cup season , however, she did not get any countable results. During the 2015/16 season , she gradually established herself in midfield. At the 2016 Junior World Championships in Sochi , she won the bronze medal in the team competition .
After a mixed European Cup winter of 2016/17 , Stjernesund achieved a breakthrough towards the end of the 2017/18 European Cup season when she achieved a total of five podium places. Among other things, she won the giant slaloms in Zinal and La Molina , with which she won the European Cup giant slalom ranking, tied with Kristine Gjelsten Haugen , and secured a permanent place in the World Cup . In her World Cup debut on October 27, 2018, at the giant slalom on the Rettenbachferner in Sölden , she surprisingly finished ninth and immediately won her first World Cup points.
