Kryenbühl comes from Unteriberg in the canton of Schwyz . As a 15-year-old, he took part in FIS races from November 2009 . At first there were no noteworthy successes. From 2012 he began to assert himself in national junior races, after which he was used for the first time in the European Cup in January 2013 . In the same month he achieved his first victory in an FIS race. Gradually, a specialization in the fast disciplines began to emerge. His best European Cup result in winter 2012/13 was a 21st place, and in January 2014 he made it into the top ten for the first time at this level.
At the Junior World Championships 2014 in Jasná , Kryenbühl just missed a medal in fourth place. On March 20, 2014, he surprisingly won the Swiss downhill championship title on the Fiescheralp , ahead of Carlo Janka and Patrick Küng . After some good results in FIS races, he made his debut in the World Cup on December 28, 2014 : In the descent from Santa Caterina Valfurva , he finished 25th and immediately won his first World Cup points. A year later he reached 25th place again on the same route. On March 10, 2016 Kryenbühl was able to place on the podium for the first time in the European Cup. On the first descent from Saalbach-Hinterglemm he finished in third place. A day later he won his first victory on the second descent in Saalbach. After that, its development stalled somewhat. In the 2016/17 World Cup , Kryenbühl was only able to place in the points in the penultimate downhill run in Kvitfjell , in the European Cup there were no top 5 results. During the 2017/18 World Cup season , he made it into the points five times, while finishing second three times in the European Cup.
Because of a concussion and a bruise on his right shin, which he sustained in Beaver Creek in early December 2018 , Kryenbühl missed a large part of the 2018/19 World Cup . Nevertheless, he made it into the top 30 five more times, and in mid-March 2019 he won a downhill win in the European Cup. After a cautious start to the 2019/20 World Cup season , he achieved 13th place in the Super-G on December 27, 2019 on the Pista Stelvio in Bormio . One day later, in the downhill on the same route, he surprisingly finished second behind Italian Dominik Paris , which was by far his best result so far. During training for the Lauberhorn downhill run in Wengen , Kryenbühl fell and pulled a strain in his right ankle , after which he had to pause for several weeks.
