In three other participations she was able to improve slightly and achieved her best result with ninth place in the combination in Davos 2018 . At the end of her second Nor-Am season in March 2015, she surprisingly won the state championship in giant slalom by beating her more experienced colleagues Paula Moltzan and Megan McJames . In the 2016/17 season she achieved her breakthrough in the Nor-Am Cup with two victories and she finished second in the overall standings behind the Canadian Ali Nullmeyer . In the following season, she also finished second behind the Canadian Roni Remme .

On November 26, 2016, O'Brien made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Killington and then made regular appearances in giant slalom and slalom. In March 2018 she won the state championship titles in Super-G and Slalom in Sun Valley . Two years after her World Cup debut, she reached a second round in the Killington slalom for the first time and was able to win her first World Cup points with rank 23. In January 2019, she achieved this for the first time in a giant slalom, finishing 26th on Kronplatz . With a total of nine wins and nine further podium places, she decided the overall, super-G, giant slalom and slalom rankings in the Nor-Am Cup 2018/19 .

In January 2020, with eleventh place in the parallel giant slalom in Sestriere , she barely missed her first top 10 result in the World Cup.
