Johanna ("Hanna") Schnarf (born September 16, 1984 in Brixen ) is a former Italian ski racer . The South Tyrolean specializes in the downhill , Super-G and Super-Combined disciplines.
biography
Schnarf took part in FIS races for the first time in December 1999 , appearances in the European Cup followed from February 2002. On December 5, 2004, she contested her first World Cup race, the Super-G in Lake Louise . Due to a lack of success, it took over a year before she could start again at the highest level.
As 20th of the Super-G in St. Moritz on January 20th, 2006 Schnarf won her first World Cup points, two days later she was tenth of the Super Combined at the same place. In the 2005/06 season she reached second place in the downhill classification in the European Cup. For more than a year, sixth place remained her best result in the World Cup, achieved on February 20, 2009 in the super combined of Tarvisio . Shortly before that, she had also achieved sixth place in the super combined at the 2009 World Cup in Val-d'Isère . At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games , she narrowly missed a medal as fourth in the Super-G; she was eighth in the super combination.
On March 6, 2010, Schnarf surprisingly came second in the descent from Crans-Montana , just a hundredth of a second behind the winner, Lindsey Vonn . Having entered the race with starting number 32, it benefited from the ever-increasing speed. After that, she has not yet reached any further podium places in the World Cup, but has numerous top 10 results. In 2010 she was voted South Tyrolean Sportswoman of the Year. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Schnarf was eighth in the super combination, while she did not make it into the fastest 20 in the downhill and super-G.
On September 25, 2012, Schnarf suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and a meniscus injury in his right knee during giant slalom training in Ushuaia , Argentina , and had to take a break for the entire 2012/13 season . In their comeback season 2013/14 the best result was a 13th place in the second downhill from Cortina d'Ampezzo . A year later, it rose to seventh place in the same place. On December 6, 2015, Schnarf just missed another podium as fourth in the Super-G of Lake Louise. She finally succeeded on January 21, 2018 in the Super-G of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
After Schnarf suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in November 2018, she was no longer able to take part in a professional ski race and as a result resigned from active ski racing on April 2, 2020.
