biography

Johannes Kröll first took part in FIS races in winter 2006/2007 . In 2008 he was Austrian youth champion in downhill and combined in his age group. After being accepted into the junior team of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV), Kröll made his debut in the European Cup in December 2008 , and regular starts in this racing series followed from next winter. After he did not get past 30th place in the European Cup, his results improved significantly at the beginning of 2011. He achieved his first podium place on January 12, 2011 with second place in the downhill on Patscherkofel ; five weeks later he was on the podium again as third on the downhill from Sochi . With that he reached third place in the European Cup downhill ranking in the 2010/11 season - tied on points with the Swiss Vitus Lüönd and only one point behind the Czech Petr Záhrobský . At the 2011 Junior World Championships in Crans-Montana , he was fourth in the Super-G and eleventh in the downhill. Kröll contested his first World Cup race in March 2011 in Kvitfjell . In the first of the two runs, he was 32nd and missed the World Cup points by just eight hundredths of a second.

On January 11th and 12th, 2012, Kröll celebrated his first two victories in the European Cup when he won the first two runs of the 2011/12 season in Val-d'Isère . Two weeks later, another victory followed in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee , with which he won the European Cup downhill classification. In spring 2012, after one year in the C and B squad, he was promoted to the A squad of the ÖSV. On November 24th, 2012, Kröll finished 15th in the Lake Louise descent , winning World Cup points for the first time. His best results were a 10th place each in the downhill run from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2013 and in Lake Louise in 2018.

On March 7, 2020, he announced his retirement from competitive sports and commented on the lack of major successes as follows:

"I didn't make the breakthrough and I accept that."
