Thorsteinn I. Sigfusson

Thorsteinn I. Sigfusson ( Icelandic Þorsteinn Ingi Sigfússon , born June 4, 1954 in Vestmannaeyjar , Iceland ; † July 15, 2019 ) was an Icelandic physicist who researched in the field of energy science. He was awarded the Global Energy Prize in 2007 . He was the director of the Innovation Center Iceland at the University of Iceland .

Career

After studying at Hamrahlid College in Reykjavík , Thorsteinn graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a degree in physics in 1978 . He received his PhD from Darwin College , Cambridge University in 1983 .

Thorsteinn was Professor of Physics at the Scientific Institute of the University of Iceland and chaired the Institute (1986-1990), the University Library (1994), the Research Center Iceland RANNIS (1996-1999) and the Technical Committee of RANNIS. He also served as director of the Mechanical Engineering Institute and dean of the faculty of the Renewable Energy School in Akureyri . From 2003 to 2007 he was co-chair of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE) and founded the Renewable Energy Prize in 2006 , which was first awarded by the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) during the course global conference in Florence .
