Wilhelm "Willy" Bogner senior (born February 7, 1909 in Traunstein , † July 27, 1977 in Hausham ) was a German skier, founder of the clothing company Bogner GmbH and father of Willy Bogner junior .

Career

Willy Bogner was a ski jumper, multiple German champion in Nordic combined and third in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1935 in Vysoké Tatry ( High Tatras ) in Czechoslovakia . He also won the silver medal with the team (4 × 10 km) at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1934 in Sollefteå / Sweden. Bogner took part in the Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 and took the Olympic oath on behalf of the athletes .

Bogner founded Willy Bogner ski sales in 1932, his future wife Maria Lux designed sportswear that Willy Bogner had produced and marketed very successfully. Since 1936 the skiers of the German squad have traditionally been wearing Bogner clothing at the Olympic Games. Bogner had been a member of the SS since April 1934 because he and many young people had been inspired by Adolf Hitler and his ideals.

Willy Bogner senior died at the age of 68 and was buried in the cemetery in Gmund am Tegernsee . His wife Maria was buried next to him in 2002.
