The Laber is a mountain in the Ammergau Alps .

Location and surroundings

The Laber is located on the northern edge of the Alps, about 60 km south of Munich , and lies entirely in Germany. The Laber is bounded in the east by the Loisach valley. To the west, the Laber drops into the valley of the Ammer and borders the Großer Aufacker in the north . In the south, the Laber is connected to the Notkarspitze in the Ammergau Alps via the Ettaler Sattel . Within the Ammergau Alps, the Laber Massif lies in the Laber-Hörnle Group and forms its main summit. Important valley locations at the foot of the mountain are Oberammergau and Ettal .

history

The Laber is mentioned as one of the border points of the medieval county of Werdenfels as early as 1073-1078 in a record of the Freising Monastery of the border in Werdenfelser Land and Ammergau .

Surname

In the current official maps, the Laber is also called "Laberberg". The Laber is clearly structured and forms several secondary peaks. Another major tourist peak is the Ettaler Mandl , which can be reached in 45 minutes from the Laber summit. Other secondary peaks are the Mandlköpf, the Große- and Kleine Laber, the Höllstein and the Mühlberg. The area around the highest point is called the Laberjoch.

The highest point is 1686 m above sea level. NHN reached a little west of the mountain station of the Laberbergbahn.

Routes to the summit

The summit is easy to reach via the normal route past the Soilasee . There are also other routes leading to the summit, but some of them require some surefootedness.

Skiing

The "Laber-Nordhang" run is one of the steepest ski slopes in Germany. The gradient is up to 84% steep and the slope is not groomed. The ski route is the only way to descend from Laber that is monitored by the avalanche commission.

Others

The summit is accessible with a cable car . In the area of the mountain station of the Laber Bergbahn there is a restaurant and various transmission systems for radio and telecommunications, including the Oberammergau transmitter for VHF and digital radio.
