The Laber mountain railway is a two-cable gondola . It leads in Oberammergau from the Sankt Gregor district to the 1684 meter high Laber in the Ammergau Alps and has a length of 2021 meters.

history

In 1955 some Ammergau citizens decided to build a cable car to promote tourism. In addition to the Laber , the tooth in Oberammergau was one of the shortlisted destinations . The commissioning was very time-consuming and labor-intensive due to the previously unused cable car system with large cabins and two-rope circulation . After a bankruptcy in 1960, the Laber-Bergbahn GmbH & Co.KG was founded as a rescue company with new investors. The Laber-Bergbahn is the last large-cabin two-cable gondola that is still in service worldwide.

technology

The technical peculiarity of this cable car lies in the circulation system of the four fixed-clamp vehicles. There are four vehicles hanging on the pulling rope, each about a thousand meters apart . Similar to a group gondola , they always circulate on both lanes and change the side of the lane when passing through the stations, but in contrast to the group gondola here only in the form of a single gondola instead of the gondola group. To get on and off there is a vehicle in the mountain and valley station on the platform, while the passengers in the vehicles have to wait briefly in the vehicles halfway along for the journey, as the entire system stops for passenger exchange. After moving off, the vehicles in the stations are guided to the other side of the lane using a mechanically very sophisticated swivel device via the drive and deflection pulley. There are two vehicles on each lane during operation.

In 1993 the control of the railway was modernized technically, in 2002 new suspension ropes followed, in 2005 the two pillars of the system were renewed, in autumn 2011 the mountain railway received new traction ropes and in November 2012 the electric drive was modernized.
