Klaus Obermeyer

Klaus Obermeyer (born December 2, 1919 in Oberstaufen im Allgäu ) is a German-American textile entrepreneur. He is also considered to be the co-founder of the winter sports resort Aspen .

Life

After graduating as an aircraft construction engineer in Munich , Klaus Obermeyer emigrated to the USA in 1947 at the age of 27 . Together with Friedl Pfeifer , an Austrian ski racer, he built a ski lift and founded the "Obermeyer Sports" ski school in Aspen. They received financial support from Walter Paepcke , a Chicago entrepreneur. As a result of the cold winter, Obermeyer developed and manufactured down jackets and opened a shop in Aspen in 1961, where he sold them. With the rise of the ski resort, so did the company's success. Among other things, Obermeyer invented the mirrored ski sunglasses and the ski stoppers . Today Obermeyer lives on a ranch on the Roaring Fork River in Aspen and still works in his company on a daily basis.

The company Sport Obermeyer sold winter sports clothing, especially in the US, Japan and South America . The company operates 802 branches in the United States. The production of the textiles used to take place in Germany , Austria and Italy , today in Bangladesh .
