A down jacket is a jacket that is filled with down from ducks or geese.

Due to its heat-insulating processing and the down used, the down jacket is particularly breathable and keeps you very warm. Their lightness is due to the low weight of the down and the use of polyamide outer fabrics.

The lower plumage of water birds is called down. These are characterized by their soft and elastic branches, in which air can be stored. The down is worked into the chambers of the down jacket.

The quality can be recognized by the amount of down and the bulk and filling power of the down. The international unit of measurement for this is called Cuin . A down jacket that is used outdoors or trekking should have at least 500 cuin. A cuin value of 700 is recommended for extremely cold regions of the world.
