The Hündlekopf is a 1,111 meter high Gratkopf the 1,124 meter high mountain Hündle in the Allgäu Alps . Other sources give its height as 1112 or 1114 m.

geology

The Hündlekopf represents the end and climax of a side chain of the Prodelkamm, which then drops steeply into the Weißach valley. Its rock, like that of all the surrounding mountain ranges and individual elevations, is piled up Nagelfluh, which is interspersed with gravel banks and layers of marl .

geography

The Hündle protrudes slightly exposed into the valley of the Konstanzer Ach and offers a beautiful view into it. From the summit, which towers over most of the mountains of the Nagelfluhkette to the north, you can see far into the Upper Swabian lowlands. In the west you can see the Dramer mountain village Steibis and the deep valley of the Weißach in between. The view of the municipal capital Oberstaufen is blocked by the Staufen , which is only slightly less high, but in a direct line and very close to the place. The ridge line between the Staufen and the Hündlekopf is part of the main European watershed between the Mediterranean and the North Sea.

flora

As in all of the Allgäu foothills west of the Iller, the vegetation on the Hündle also benefits from the calcareous Nagelfluh rock and its mineral-rich marl layers. The typical variety of flowers and plants of the rear Nagelfluhkette can also be found here. Every year in April, white and purple crocuses bloom east of the Hündle.

Economical meaning

On the Hündle there are several alpine farms with summer stocking by young cattle on the south side of the mountain. On the north side up to the summit is the Sennalpe Oberhündle , which is also stocked with adult cattle in the warmer half of the year. The milk they milk is processed into cheese and butter in a small dairy on site.

Sport and tourism

The Hündle-Bahn transports people in 8-seater gondolas from the valley station at 769 meters above sea level to 1053 meters and back.

The mountain station of the Hündlebahn is the starting point for some circular hiking routes and tour destinations.

In winter, in addition to the Hündle cable car, three drag lifts and a children's lift transport winter sports enthusiasts.

There is a take-off point for paragliders near the mountain station .
