Máté Valkusz (born August 13, 1998 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian tennis player .

Career

Valkusz made it to the top of the junior world rankings as a junior. He achieved this in January 2016. In 2015 at the Australian Open and 2015 at the French Open , he stood in doubles in a Grand Slam tournament in the junior semi-finals. At the Orange Bowl he also made it to the semi-finals in singles, where he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas .

From 2016 the Hungarian played professional tournaments regularly and this year made it into the top 1000 of the world rankings . In 2017 he reached his first final on the ITF Future Tour , which he lost. In his hometown Budapest he also played his first tournament on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour . In the world rankings he could not improve. In 2018 he made a leap forward. Again in Budapest he won a match at this level for the first time against Quentin Halys . By the end of the year, he had won five future titles and reached another final. At the Challenger in Cordenons , he surprised the competition and achieved his best Challenger result. From the qualification he won seven matches in a row - including a double bagel and a bagel against Zdeněk Kolář and Magnus Eriksson . In the final he lost to Paolo Lorenzi in three sets. This year, thanks to his achievements, he made it to 243th place, his career best. Also in 2018, Valkusz made his debut for the Hungarian Davis Cup team . In the game against the Czech Republic, he lost both of his individual matches.

In 2019, the Hungarian came to a title at the lowest tennis level and played his first match in singles and doubles on the ATP Tour at the Hungarian Open . He couldn't win both matches. In the ranking list he fell out of the top 300.
