Orlando Sirola

Orlando Sirola (born April 30, 1928 in Fiume , † November 13, 1995 in Bologna ) was an Italian tennis player .

In 1959 he won the double competition of the French Open with Nicola Pietrangeli . In 1955 he was in the final with Pietrangeli, which they lost. In 1956 he reached the final of Wimbledon with Pietrangeli . His greatest success in singles was the semi-finals at the French Open 1960. Sirola was at the Masters in Rome between 1955 and 1963 a total of seven times in the finals of the doubles competition. But only in 1960 did he and his permanent doubles partner Pietrangeli win the tournament. In individual he won the Bavarian championships in 1958. At the International German Championships in Hamburg in 1956 he reached the individual finals.

Together with Pietrangeli, Sirola is Italy's most successful double in Davis Cup history . Between 1953 and 1963 he won a total of 35 doubles, 34 of them with Pietrangeli. He played 46 encounters with a positive statistic of 57:33 wins overall. In 1960 and 1961 he was with Italy in the final of the Davis Cup, but lost both times to Australia .
