Nanyangosaurus (" Lizard of Nanyang ") was a bird pelvic dinosaur and lived in the Lower Cretaceous about 112 to 100 million years ago . It was discovered in the Sangping Formation in the Chinese province of Henan and described in 2000 by the well-known Chinese paleontologist Xing as well as Zhao, Lu, Li, Huang and Dong.
The dinosaur was concerning the classification in the Iguanodontoidea involved, which in turn in the Iguanodontia located. Accordingly, Nanyangosaurus , of which only one species is known with Nanyangosaurus zhugeii , was able to move quadruped (four-legged) as well as biped (two-legged). The approximately 4.5 meter long dinosaur ate herbivorous diet (on plants) and probably weighed about half a ton .
Only parts of the skeleton of Nanyangosaurus have been discovered , for example no skull has yet been found. Its vertebrae sometimes had spinous processes similar to those of the closely related Ouranosaurus , but in a smaller size.
