Simon John Arthur Youl (born July 1, 1965 in Symmons Plains , Tasmania ) is a retired Australian tennis player .

Career

Youl won the junior competitions of the French Open , Wimbledon and the US Open in doubles in 1983 , each on the side of Mark Kratzmann . He had already become a professional tennis player the year before. In 1983 he also won the Challenger Tournament in Sydney , the following year he won the Challenger Tournament in Lee-on-Solent . Until the late 1980s he played successfully on the Challenger Tour , but also booked some quarter and semi-finals on the ATP World Tour . He won his first ATP tournament victory in Schenectady in 1989 , and the following year he won his first double title on the ATP Tour alongside Todd Woodbridge in Casablanca . Overall, he came up with two single and two double titles in his career. He reached his highest ranking in the ATP world rankings in 1992 with position 80 in singles and 63 in doubles.

His best performance in a Grand Slam tournament was a round of 16 singles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. In doubles he reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
