Stefan Kruger (born August 3, 1966 in Cape Town ) is a former South African tennis player who was mainly successful in doubles .

Life

Kruger was in the final of the Wimbledon junior tournament in 1984 , but was subject to Mark Kratzmann . He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and was nominated twice for the All-American selection. In 1986 he reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA championships . He became a professional tennis player in 1987 and reached the quarter-finals at the Challenger Tournament in Durban . At the side of Neil Broad , he won two double titles on the Challenger Tour the following year. In 1989 they both won their first double title on the ATP World Tour in Adelaide . In the course of his career he was able to win three ATP double titles, five more times he was in a double-final. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1989 with position 253 in singles and in 1993 with position 38 in doubles.

He could never qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament in singles . In the doubles competition he reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 1990 with Greg Van Emburgh , but they were subject to the eventual tournament winners Rick Leach and Jim Pugh in four sets.
