Cristian Villagrán (born January 20, 1982 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Swiss - Argentine tennis player .

Career

Villagrán was already successful as a junior and competed in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments . He achieved his best individual placement in the junior ranking list in early 2000 when he was 13th.

He played his first professional tournaments from 1999 on the third-class ITF Future Tour . There he won seven singles and eight doubles titles between 2000 and 2004. In the world rankings , he made it into the top 300 in both singles and doubles. In 2003, he competed in the Pan American Games . While he lost his first match in singles, he won the bronze medal in doubles alongside Carlos Berlocq .

He made his debut on the ATP World Tour in Buenos Aires in 2005 . He and his compatriot Juan Pablo Brzezicki received a wild card for the double field, where they made it to the semi-finals. He won his first double title on the ATP Challenger Tour a month later in Salinas . This he had two more follow in Sassuolo and Trani . After his fourth title in Florianópolis , he finished 115th in February 2006, his best place in the world rankings. That year he also won his only individual title in Mantua .

In the following years he was unable to maintain this level in doubles, he only won two titles in 2007. In singles, he continued to improve through successes on the Future Tour and achieved his career record with 200th place in July 2008. He won his last title on the Challenger Tour in San Benedetto del Tronto alongside Stefano Ianni . In 2011 and 2012 he did not play a professional tournament, so that he was no longer in the world rankings. In 2013 he returned to the Future Tour, but never won a tournament in doubles. From 2015 Villagrán competed for Switzerland and won another future tournament in 2016 under this flag. His last game was in doubles in a future in Switzerland.
