George Cosac (born January 26, 1968 in Constanța ) is a former Romanian tennis player and current sports official . He has been President of the Federația Română de Tenis since 2013 .
Life
From 1989 Cosac played mainly on the ATP Challenger Tour , where he was able to record some notable successes, especially in doubles. He was in the final of the Heilbronn tournament where he and his compatriot Adrian Marcu lost to Michael Stich and Martin Sinner . He also took part in the finals in 1989 in Budapest and Eger . The following year he was in two double finals on the Challenger Tour and in the double finals in Prague . Together with the two finals in Bucharest in 1993 and 1998, these were his greatest successes on the ATP World Tour . In 1996 he celebrated the double title of the Challenger tournament in Brasov on the side of Dinu Pescariu . The following year he defended the title; this time with the Briton Miles Maclagan as a partner and Pescariu, who competed with Ionuț Moldovan , as an opponent. From the late 1990s until the end of his career in 2008, he mainly played on the ITF Future Tour . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1995 with position 265 in singles and in 1991 with position 170 in doubles. He could never qualify for a Grand Slam tournament in singles or doubles.
Between 1988 and 1996 Cosac played seven singles and 16 doubles games for the Romanian Davis Cup team . His double balance was balanced at 8: 8, he could only win one of his individual games. His greatest success with the team was participation in the first round game in the 1996 world group. In the 3-2 victory over Belgium , he was used in doubles.
At the 1992 Summer Olympics he played doubles for Romania. On the side of Dinu Pescariu he reached the quarterfinals, in which they were defeated Wayne Ferreira and Piet Norval in three sets.
On February 22, 2013, Cosac was elected President of the Federația Română de Tenis with 124 of 208 votes to succeed Ruxandra Dragomir Ilie .
