Heinrich Rodeck

Heinrich Friedrich J. Rodeck (born November 1, 1920 in Gladbeck ; † June 20, 2018 in Recklinghausen ) was a German doctor specializing in paediatrics and paediatrics , a university professor and researcher. Until his retirement in 1986 he was director of the Vestische Children's Clinic in Datteln .

Origin and education

Heinrich Rodeck came from a long-established Gladbeck family and was born as the son of the high school teacher Franz Rodeck. After elementary school, he attended the Ratsgymnasium from 1931 , where his father had been teaching German since 1912, and graduated from high school in 1939 . Interrupted by work and military service, Heinrich Rodeck studied medicine in Halle , Würzburg and Münster .

After the state examination, he received his doctorate there in 1947. He had been working at the Physiological Institute of the University of Münster since 1946 and moved to the Physiological-Chemical Institute there in 1948. In 1950 he went to clinical training at the Children's Clinic of the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf and worked as a guest assistant at the University of Kiel and in Montreal, Canada .

In 1956 Rodeck received his habilitation in Düsseldorf with a thesis on the development of the neurosecretory system in connection with the regulation of the water balance in newborns and infants and was appointed lecturer in paediatrics.

Act

On December 1, 1960, Heinrich Rodeck took over the management of the Vestische Children's Clinic in Datteln, and remained its medical director until his retirement in 1986. Under his leadership, “ a think tank emerges that publishes the change in tasks in clinical paediatrics extensively and, above all, demonstrates it in a comprehensible manner. With 195 scientific papers and contributions, 154 lectures or moderations […] Prof. Rodeck […] alone has pushed pediatric medicine […] to the fore in health policy discussions ”. Rodeck also worked as an associate professor at the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf.
