Giovanni Furno

Giovanni Furno (born January 1, 1748 in Capua , † June 20, 1837 in Naples ) was an Italian composer and music teacher of the so-called Neapolitan school .

Live and act

Giovanni Furno received his training from Carlo Cotumacci (1709–1782) at the Conservatorio Sant'Onofrio in Naples, where he also taught from 1775 to 1797. After that he was a composition teacher at the Conservatorio della Pietà de'Turchini until 1808 and finally at the Real Conservatorio di Musica San Pietro a Maiella . His students included Luigi Ricci , Saverio Mercadante , Vincenzo Bellini and Errico Petrella (1813–1877).

Furno composed two operas , including L'allegria disturbata (1778), a Miserere , a symphony and other works for orchestra.
