Anton Amann (chemist)

Anton Amann (born June 20, 1956 in Bregenz ; † January 6, 2015 ) was an Austrian chemist and professor at the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Innsbruck .

Life

Amann studied chemistry at the ETH Zurich and graduated in 1984 with a doctorate under Hans Primas and Norbert Straumann . The title of his dissertation was Observable in W * -algebraic quantum mechanics . In 1991 he completed his habilitation in physical chemistry at the ETH Zurich. From 1987 to 1995 he was Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Physical Chemistry at ETH Zurich. In 1995 he received an APART scholarship from the Austrian Academy of Sciences and an invitation to the position of associate professor at Yale University . From 1997 he was Professor of Chemistry at the University of Innsbruck and from 2004 at the Medical University of Innsbruck. Amann headed the Institute for Breathing Gas Analysis of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and from 2014 of the University of Innsbruck.

He worked in the field of physical chemistry , EKG analysis and breath gas analysis and wrote over 150 scientific papers.

He was editor-in-chief of the Journal of Breath Research . In 2004 he was chairman and organizer of the international conference "Breath Gas Analysis for Medical Diagnostics" in Dornbirn . In 2005 he was chairman and organizer of the international conference "Breath Analysis for Clinical Diagnosis and Therapeutic Monitoring" in Innsbruck . In 2010 he was awarded the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Medal of the Polish Chemical Society. From 2006 to 2009 he was the coordinator of the EU project BAMOD (lung carcinoma screening, with 13 European partners).
