Gerald Teschl
Gerald Teschl (born May 12, 1970 in Graz ) is an Austrian mathematician and university professor at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna .
Life
Gerald Teschl was born on May 12, 1970 in Graz, where he also studied physics at the Technical University from 1988 to 1993 . He then completed a doctorate in mathematics at the University of Missouri - Columbia, where he obtained his doctorate in 1995 with Fritz Gesztesy on the subject of Spectral Theory for Jacobi Operators . After researching at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (1996/97) and the University of Vienna , he completed his habilitation in May 1998 at the latter, where he has been active since then and was appointed university professor in 2011.
He is married to the mathematician Susanne Teschl and has two sons.
Services
Among other things, he deals with direct and inverse spectral theory and their application to integrable wave equations ( soliton equations ). His main contributions are in the fields of Sturm-Liouville theory , Jacobi operators, and the Toda lattice . He also works in the field of biomathematics , in particular breathing gas analysis , and together with his wife has written a successful two-volume textbook mathematics for computer scientists .
Teschl belongs to the working group Mathematical Physics and Partial Differential Equations at the Faculty of Mathematics.
Awards
In 1997 he won the Ludwig Boltzmann Prize of the Austrian Physical Society , in 1999 the Promotion Prize of the Austrian Mathematical Society and in 2006 the START Prize of the FWF . From 2011 to 2019 he is a member of the Young Curia of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
