Fritz Gesztesy
Friedrich "Fritz" Gesztesy (born November 5, 1953 in Leibnitz ) is an Austrian-American mathematician and professor at the Institute for Mathematics at Baylor University . He is known for his important contributions to spectral theory , functional analysis , nonrelativistic quantum mechanics (especially Schrödinger operators), and fully integrable systems ( Soliton equations). He has authored more than 270 publications in mathematics and physics.
Life
After a basic course in physics at the University of Graz , he completed a doctorate in theoretical physics there. The title of the dissertation in 1976 by Heimo Latal and Ludwig Streit was energy densities and renormalization in the model of a field theory with quadratic interaction . After scientific work at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Graz (1977/82) and several stays abroad at the University of Bielefeld (Alexander von Humboldt scholarship 1980–81 and 1983–84) and at the California Institute of Technology (Max Kade scholarship 1987 –88) he moved to the University of Missouri - Columbia . In 2002 he became Houchin's Distinguished Professor. In 2016 he moved to Baylor University as Storm Professor of Mathematics.
Services
Among other things, he deals with direct and inverse spectral theory and their application to integrable wave equations ( soliton equations ) where he has made important contributions to over 270 publications.
Awards
In 1983 he won the Theodor Körner Prize , in 1987 he won the Ludwig Boltzmann Prize of the Austrian Physical Society . In 2002 he was elected a member of Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab in Trondheim . He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
