Karl Erich Unterkofler (born January 17, 1957 in Villach ) is an Austrian mathematician and lecturer at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences .

After completing a basic course in physics at the Technical University of Graz (graduating as a graduate engineer in 1986), he completed a doctoral degree there . The title of the dissertation in 1989 with Wolfgang Bulla and Fritz Gesztesy was holomorphism of scattered theoretical quantities of Dirac theory . From 1986 to 1993 he was Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Graz where he in January 2001 in the subject Applied Mathematics habilitated . He spent the academic years 1990–1992 on an Erwin Schrödinger scholarship as a visiting assistant professor at the Mathematics Institute of the University of Missouri - Columbia .

Karl Unterkofler belongs to the Life Science-Biomathematics research group in the BI research center at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences. He is also affiliated with the Institute for Breathing Gas Analysis at the University of Innsbruck.

Among other things, he deals with direct and inverse spectral theory , soliton equations and biomathematics ( electrocardiogram (EKG) analysis and breathing gas analysis )
