Elia Interguglielmi

Elia Interguglielmi (* 1746 in Naples , † May 16, 1835 in Palermo ) was a late baroque and neoclassic painter in Sicily .

Life

Interguglielmi is first documented in 1762 as an assistant to Giuseppe Bonito and Antonio Dominici . From 1767 at the latest he went to Palermo, where he painted scenes from the life of Saint Anne in the church of Sant'Anna la Misericordia , which were strongly influenced by the Palermi painter Vito D'Anna . The frescoes from the life of the Virgin Mary in the from 1782 approach the Neapolitan art, in particular that of Luca Giordano and Francesco Solimena . Between 1780 and 1810 he decorated numerous palaces and villas in Palermo and the surrounding area with frescoes. Interguglielmi became one of the leading painters in the transition from late baroque to classicism. In his later work he was influenced by the archaeological discoveries in Pompeii and Herculaneum .
