Kozō Andō

Kozō Andō ( Japanese 安藤 宏 三 , Andō Kozō ; born June 20, 1940 in Ōgaki ; † October 8, 2003 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese Kendōka (8th Dan Kyoshi ) and professor at Waseda University .

At the age of 13 he began to practice kendo at the middle school in Yokkaichi . As a student he was the team captain of the Kendō Club at Waseda University. At 27 he passed the 7th Dan Kendo exam . He was Shihan University until 2003 . In addition, he was a senior member of various committees of the All-Japanese Kendō Federation ( Zen Nihon Kendō Renmei ) and the All-Japanese Student Kendō Federation (Zen Nihon Gakusei Kendo Renmei).

Andō published various specialist articles on kendō in Japanese as well as - together with Kotaro Oshima - the "Textbook of Japanese Sword Fighting", which is valid in the translation of Ichiko Mandt to this day in German-speaking countries as a standard work.

In Germany he was active as a national coach for many years. He often visited Hamburg and was Shihan of the Kendō Dōjō Hamburg in SVE.

Kozō Andō died as a result of a stroke he had suffered on the return journey from Germany to Japan in a hospital in Tokyo.
