Count Ferdinand Felix Carl Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin (born July 1, 1812 in Thürnhofen near Feuchtwangen , † June 20, 1891 in Amstetten ) was a French civil servant.

family
Ferdinand Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin came from the Alsatian nobility Eckbrecht von Dürckheim . His father was Karl Friedrich Johann Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin (born November 15, 1770 in Regensburg , † August 1, 1836 in Blaesheim in Alsace ), Swedish and Württemberg chamberlain , envoy in The Hague . His mother was Amalie Philippine Luise (born February 11, 1774 in Ludwigsburg ; † November 17, 1845 in Bonn ), a daughter of Baron Christian Carl Ludwig Eckbrecht von Dürckheim (1740–1789). His grandfather was Friedrich Samuel von Montmartin , who enriched himself in many ways as Prime Minister of Württemberg and President of the Privy Council. His siblings were:

Ferdinand Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin married Mathilde (born May 11, 1815 in Strasbourg, Alsace; † August 6, 1847 in Pau , Béarn ), a daughter of Johann Friedrich von Türckheim , in his first marriage on November 25, 1834 in Strasbourg , Alsace (1780–1850), President of the Directory of the Church of the Augsburg Confession in Alsace and Mayor of Strasbourg. They had a son together:
- Carl Friedrich Edgar Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin (* May 11, 1836, † May 11, 1836).
In his second marriage, he was married to Franziska Josephine Auguste (born August 21, 1816 in Strasbourg; † November 1, 1903 in Merano ), a sister of his first wife, from 1849 . The sisters were the granddaughters of Lili Schönemann , who was engaged to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1775 . They had three sons:
- Wolfgang Friedrich Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin (born December 14, 1849 in Schlettstadt , Alsace, † May 14, 1937 in Aigen near Salzburg);

His great-nephew Alfred Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin (1850–1912) was a Bavarian infantry general and gained fame as a wing adjutant and last confidante of King Ludwig II when he was arrested in 1886.
Career
Ferdinand Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin returned in 1815 with his father to the family property, which had been confiscated during the revolution, and from 1828 studied law at the University of Strasbourg . In 1833 he passed the examination for a licentiate in law and he became the private secretary of the Prefect in Strasbourg. He received his first independent job in 1836 as sub-prefect in Espalion in the Aveyron department , in 1838 in Nantua ( Ain department ) and in 1840 in Weißenburg in Alsace. In 1844 he was in charge of Prince Louis Napoléon ( Napoleon III ), who was imprisoned in Ham , and made an acquaintance with him. From 1844 to 1848 he was sub-prefect of Provins ( Département Seine-et-Marne ).
1848 Ferdinand Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin, during the February Revolution in Paris , by the new President Napoleon III. Sub-prefect in Schlettstadt ( department Bas-Rhin ), who later made him prefect in Kolmar ( department Haut-Rhin ) from 1850 to 1853 . In this position he was responsible for maintaining German instruction in elementary schools and for establishing closer ties with the Rhine Palatinate and Baden . Because of a conflict with Victor Fialin, duc de Persigny , he asked for his release in 1853.
In 1854 he became General Inspector of the French Telegraph Administration and took part as its representative at the Vienna World Exhibition in 1869, where he was a member of the jury.
In 1871 he settled on the family property in Frœschwiller , which had since been bought back , and tried to facilitate the transition from Alsace to the new German Empire . He belonged to the delegation of notaries that presented the wishes of the country to Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck in March 1872 . After his advice regarding the treatment of the inhabitants was not followed, he said that the politically immature people were brought up with a strong will and ruthless perseverance and made German, he withdrew from political life. Because he considered the governorship of Edwin von Manteuffel to be particularly harmful, he moved to Edla Castle in Edla near Amstetten in Lower Austria in 1883 .
