Türckheim (noble family)

Family coat of arms of those of Türckheim

The barons of Türckheim were an old patrician dynasty of the city of Strasbourg who were accepted into the imperial knighthood through the purchase of knighthood and raised to imperial baron status in 1782. Members of the family came into influential positions in France and Germany, especially in the 19th century.

Differentiation from other families

The history of the sex is not certain until the middle of the 15th century. An early local nobility (1141 Wernherr von Thüringheim) is regarded as part of the von Rust family . A connection to the noble family of the Lords of Dürckheim , later Eckbrecht von Dürckheim, is suspected according to family tradition, but has not been proven. There is no relation to the Nebel family, called Türkheimer von Türkheim (later Türkheim von Geißlern).

history

A Hahnemann von Türinckheim, who bought his way into the citizenship of the Alsatian city of Türckheim in 1459 , is considered the first established ancestor of the family. In 1540 a Johann von Türckheim appears as councilor of the city of Strasbourg . In 1552, Hofpfalzgrave Wilhelm Ludwig Böcklin von Böcklinsau confirmed the knightly nobility and gave the brothers Nikolaus and Ulrich von Türckheim permission to improve their coat of arms . The older line established by Nikolaus (1518–1596) died out in the male line in the middle of the 17th century. All later Türckheim lines go back to the younger line founded by Ulrich. Members of the family worked several times in public offices in the city of Strasbourg and as wholesalers.

On March 8, 1782 John IV was. Türckheim of Emperor Joseph II. In the realm baron conditions applicable. His sons Johann and Bernhard Friedrich founded the Baden and Alsatian lines of the von Türkheim family.

Line from Türckheim to Altdorf (older Ortenauisch-Breisgau main trunk)

In 1783 Baron Johann von Türckheim - a son of the imperial baron Johann von Türckheim - bought Altdorf Castle near Ettenheim and rounded off the purchase of the castle by buying the fiefs in 1786/87. The family was registered with the Ortenau Imperial Knighthood in 1790 .

In 1814 Johann von Türckheim zu Altdorf married Friederike von Günderrode, a daughter from a family of the old Frankfurt patriciate, and in 1822 was accepted into the aristocratic inheritance of the Alten Limpurg family.

Baron Karl von Baden died in 1830 as the last male offspring of the Barons von Baden family . Karl's nephew Bruno Freiherr von Türckheim zu Altdorf inherited him and also received approval for the association of names and coats of arms . From then on his descendants called themselves Barons von Türckheim, called von Baden . The von Türckheim family came to possessions in the Breisgau ( Schloss Liel , Schliengen , Amoltern, Au and Sölden).

In 1832 Christian von Türckheim bought Mahlberg Castle in Mahlberg ( Margraviate Baden-Baden ). On December 31, 1833, the Türckheim von Altdorf were raised to the baron status of the Grand Duchy of Baden. The sex belonged to the voting and elected landlords of the first chamber of the Baden assembly of estates.

The family had landlord rights in Altdorf , Orschweier , Rohrburg and Liel .

Line from Türckheim to Truttenhausen (Younger Alsatian Line)

Johann's brother, the banker Bernhard Friedrich von Türckheim, married Lili Schönemann , Goethe's former fiancée , in 1778 , and with her founded the line from Türckheim to Truttenhausen (Younger Alsatian Line). Many officers and officials in France came from this line.
