Barbu Catargiu
Barbu Catargiu (born October 26 . Jul / 7. November 1807 greg. In Bucharest , † June 8 jul. / 20th June 1862 greg. ) Was a Romanian politician and until his death Prime Minister of the country.
Life
Catargiu was the son of the judge Ștefan Catargiu and Țiței (Stanca) Văcărescu. After school he lived abroad between 1825 and 1834, mainly in France . In Paris he studied history, philosophy and economics. The conservative politician was a good speaker and advocate of the boyar class .
He was sworn in as Prime Minister on February 15, 1862. Four months later, he was murdered on June 20, 1862 while leaving a parliamentary assembly in Bucharest. The background to the fact remains unclear to this day.
