Wilhelm Uhlenbruck

Wilhelm Uhlenbruck (born October 30, 1930 in Cologne ) is a German lawyer and author of publications, in particular on insolvency and medical law .

Life

Uhlenbruck is the son of the heart specialist Paul Uhlenbruck . The physician and aphorist Gerhard Uhlenbruck is his brother. After graduating from high school, Wilhelm Uhlenbruck completed a commercial apprenticeship at Rheinbraun AG; he then studied law at the University of Munich and the University of Cologne . He passed the first state examination in law in 1958 in Cologne. In 1960 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The Hospital Admission Contract in Cologne. After the second state examination in Düsseldorf in 1963, he became a judge. He worked at the regional courts in Bonn and Aachen. He headed the bankruptcy department at the Cologne District Court . From 1965 to 1985 he was a member of the Insolvency Law Commission. He became known through the liquidation of the Herstatt Bank , where he was a comparison judge in 1974.

In 1980 he received a teaching position at the University of Cologne, and in 1986 he became an honorary professor there. He is co-editor of the magazines “ Medical Law ”, “Bankruptcy, Trust, Arbitration” and “ New Magazine for the Law of Insolvency and Reorganization ”.

His commentary on bankruptcy law is considered a standard work . With Adolf Laufs , he published the medical law handbook in 1992 . In 1972, he was the first lawyer in Germany to deal with advance directives, which he referred to as the "patient will".
