María Luisa Landín Rodríguez (born October 9, 1921 in Mexico City , † June 20, 2014 there ) was a Mexican singer .

Life

Landín and her sister Avelina founded the duo Pirita y Jade in 1935 , which performed at celebrations and made their debut in 1936 on the XEYZ radio station. In 1938 they were signed by the broadcaster XEQ ( Radio Panamericana ) and first appeared as Dúo Mari-Lina , later as El Dúo de las Hermanas Landín alongside the duo Águila ( Esperanza and María de la Paz Águila Villalobos ). After her sister's marriage, María Luisa Landín was engaged by Carlos Riverol at the Teatro de Bellas Artes , where she performed with the tenor Néstor Mesta Chayres . With this she also sang in radio productions and recorded an LP as Duo Chayres-Landin . Landín had her first international success in 1942 with Rafael Hernández Marín's Canción del alma and with Abel Domínguez Borrás ' Hay que saber perder . In 1949 she was seen in the film Heaven over the Swamps .

After a successful tour of South America, she signed an exclusive contract with the broadcaster XEW in 1949, where she played in a program with writers, composers, musicians, conductors and actors. In the same year she recorded Pedro Flores ' song Amor Perdido in the arrangement of Rafael de Paz with the orchestra of José Saber Marroquín , which became one of the most successful titles in Latin American radio. Gustavo de León and Antonio Nicoly produced the film of the same name with director Miguel Morayata based on a template by Victor Mora . Landín went on further concert tours and performed a. a. in Havana , Los Angeles , San Francisco , Santo Domingo , Caracas , Maracaibo , Lima , Bogotá , Medellín , Calí , Madrid , Santiago de Chile , Buenos Aires , Puerto Rico and Panama . During her (second) marriage to the Cuban composer Fernando Mulens, she lived in Havana.

Composers like July Steiner , Consuelo Velásquez, Rafael Hernández Marín, Federico Baena , Alberto Salinas , Antonio Núñez , Alberto Muñoz , Pablo Valdéz , Mario Ruiz Armengol , Miguel Acuña , Rodolfo Mendiolea, Miguel Ángel Pazos , Marcelo Rey , Miguel Ángel E Valladares , Claudo Rey , Oscar Kinleiner , Rafael de Paz, Ivon Curi , Juan B. Leonardo , Domingo Fabiano , Minerva Magaña , Pablo Valdéz Hernández , Alberto Domínguez, Luciano Miral , José Alfredo Jiménez and Carlos Gómez Barrera wrote songs for them. Eventually she acquired the reputation of reina del bolero ("Queen of Bolero ").
