Ivon José Curi (surname often incorrectly Cury ; born June 5, 1928 in Caxambu / Minas Gerais , † June 24, 1995 in Rio de Janeiro / Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian singer , composer and actor . He had his active time from 1947 until his death, he represented the musical style Música Popular Brasileira (MPB).

Life

Ivon Curi began singing sambas and chansons at parties and shows around 1944 , later on the radio . In Rio de Janeiro he got his first great career opportunity through Caribé da Rocha , who signed him as the lead singer for the Orquestra Zacarias at the Hotel Copacabana Palace . There he met the biggest stars of the time. He was heavily influenced by the French singer Jean Sablon , whose most famous work was the song J'attendrais . In 1947 he got his first contract with Radio Nacional to appear in the shows of Emilinha Borba , Dalva de Oliveira and Ângela Maria . He then moved to Rádio Tupi .

In 1949 he recorded the Baião Me leva for the Continental record company in a duet with Carmélia Alves . In the early 1950s he changed his style and began telling jokes and grimacing , then singing chansons and northeast Brazilian songs. After tours through Brazil he made a European tour in 1956/57 a. a. with shows in Portugal , where he took on the style of a one-man show for the first time and was named the best performer of Brazilian music .

When the Jovem Guarda celebrated great success, Ivon Curi temporarily withdrew from artistic life. In 1971 he celebrated his comeback with the show Ivon Curi em todos os tempos at the Teatro Casa Grande , where he presented himself as a show man and looked back at his career before releasing a long-playing record of the same name. In 1977 the Continental label released the LP Ivon Curi as number 26 in the MPB's Idole series .

In 1984 he had another comeback and celebrated his 40th stage anniversary in 1987 with the LP Ivon Curi ontem e hoje . In 1993 he hosted the Show da Manchete program and began the show A França e quinze saudades , in which he interpreted chansons that formed the basis for the LP Douce France , his last solo work. His last recording was the title Forró do beliscão , which was recorded in 1995 on João Batista do Vale ( BMG ), a tribute to the composer João do Vale . His last TV role was the Gaúcho Gaudêncio in Escolinha do Professor Raimundo. He was also known as the Brazilian voice of Lumiere , the candlestick in Disney's Beauty and the Beast .

Curi was married and had four children. His daughter Ivana is a designer in Rio de Janeiro .
