Mario Ruiz Armengol

Mario Ruiz Armengol (born March 17, 1914 in Veracruz , † December 22, 2002 in Cancún ) was a Mexican composer, pianist and conductor.

The son of the pianist Mario Ruiz Suarez was considered a musical child prodigy. He began playing the piano at the age of eight, conducted his first concert with the Leopoldo Beristaín Company at the age of fifteen and was one of the founders of the band of the radio station XEW-AM at the age of sixteen. In the following years he became known as a composer, arranger and conductor, his songs were interpreted by musicians such as Andy Rusell , Chucho Martínez Gil , Fernando Fernandez , María Luisa Landín , Amparo Montes , José Antonio Méndez , Lola Beltrán , Marco Antonio Muñiz , and later also by José José , Gualberto , Arturo Castro , Guadalupe Pineda , Roberto Pérez Vázquez , Rodolfo "Popo" Sánchez , José Luis Caballero , Enrique Méndez , Paty Carrion , Mariana Alvarez and Verónica Ituarte and he became known as Mr Harmony .

In 1936 he studied counterpoint and harmony with José Rolón . In 1948 he met Rodolfo Halffter , who inspired him to do his Seven Exercises of Composition and Harmony and with whom he worked for many years in the musical field. In 1954, Ruiz's first classical composition was the Prelude for Piano and Harp . Numerous other piano works followed, including sonatas, fantasies and preludes, waltzes, scherzos and minuets, 31 children's pieces and 19 Cuban dances. His chamber music works for piano, cello, harp and flute were among others. a. performed by Gustavo Rivero Weber , Enrique Nery , Alejandro Duprat , Gildardo Mojíca and Alejandro Corona , more recently also performed by Edgar Dorantes , Eleonora Bárrales Cortes and Luis Enrique Leon .
