Daniel Zítka (born June 20, 1975 in Havířov ) is a former Czech football player on the position of goalkeeper. He ended his career in 2012.
Player career
society
Zítka made his debut in the 1st Czech League on the second day of the 1994/95 season for Viktoria Žižkov , in the further course of the season he was no longer used. He then moved to FC Alfa Slušovice in the 2nd division . There he made only one game and went to FK Baník Havířov, his former youth club. Zítka also scored one goal in ten appearances. He moved to FC Zlín , where he was able to establish himself as number one. In the current 1997/98 season he moved to the Slovak first division club 1. FC Tatran Prešov where he was also a regular goalkeeper.
In November 1999 he signed the Belgian club KSC Lokeren , who already had experience with Czech players. Zítka was also first choice in Lokeren and convinced the top Belgian club RSC Anderlecht with his good performances , with whom he signed a contract until 2006 in the summer of 2002.
In the first two years in Brussels Zítka played more often, lost his place but after a mistake in September 2004 at the Champions League match against FC Valencia . In the 2005/06 season he came to only seven missions, also due to injuries. His contract was extended to 2008. In the 2006/07 season he showed excellent performances and was voted Belgian Goalkeeper of the Year.
Zítka broke his leg during the 2008/09 season and was out of action for a very long time due to this injury. After his recovery in the 2009/10 season, the Czech was only a substitute behind Silvio Proto and Davy Schollen . In June 2010 Zítka terminated a contract with Anderlecht that was valid until June 2011 and returned to his homeland, where he joined Sparta Prague . He rarely got a chance there and ended his active career in 2012.
National team
Daniel Zítka played a friendly game for the Czech U21 national team in 1994 and 1996 . He made his senior national team debut on November 21, 2007 in the qualifying match for the 2008 European Championship against Cyprus , in which he conceded no goal. At the finals of this tournament, he was the third goalkeeper in the Czech team. In the same year he completed two World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and San Marino . Even with these he did not concede a goal. Since then he has not been considered in the national team.
