Alberto Cerqui (born June 20, 1992 in Brescia ) is an Italian racing driver . In 2011 he won the Italian championship of the Superstars Series . In 2012 he competed in the World Touring Car Championship .

Career

Cerqui began his career like most motorsport enthusiasts in karting , in which he was active from 2002 to 2008. In 2009 he switched to the single-seater racing and entered the Formula Azzura on. He won 4 of 16 races and became champion. In 2010 Cerqui was given a cockpit at Ombra Racing in the Italian Formula 3 championship . With a ninth place as the best result, he finished the season in 19th place in the championship.

In 2011 Cerqui decided to switch to touring car racing . At ROAL Motorsport , which competed as Team BMW Italia , he received a cockpit in the Superstars Series . He won three races and was on the podium a total of nine times. At the end of the season he was the winner of the Italian standings and was third in the international standings. He was the best BMW driver in both categories. In 2012 , Cerqui competed in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) for ROAL Motorsport . He drove a BMW 320 TC . After the second race weekend, he finished twelfth overall.
