Hans Studer (composer)

Hans Studer (born April 20, 1911 in Muri bei Bern , Canton Bern , Switzerland ; † June 20, 1984 in Zeneggen , District Visp , Canton Valais ) was a Swiss composer , choir director and organist .

Live and act

Hans Studer was the son of the mechanic and chauffeur Johann Studer and his wife Rosa geb. Bigler. During primary school, the families moved to Blumenstein , and he attended secondary school in Thierachern . He then graduated from the Protestant teacher training college Muristalden in Bern and began studying piano at the Bern Conservatory with Willy Burkhard . During his subsequent activity as a primary school teacher in Homberg , he continued his musical studies in Bern with Ernst Graf ( organ and music theory ), Franz Josef Hirt (piano), Hermann Scherchen ( instrumentation ) and Albert Moeschinger ( composition ). At the University of Bern he attended lectures in musicology with Ernst Kurth .

He later became a music teacher at the Free Gymnasium in Bern , at the Thun teachers' seminar and, from 1947, at the teachers ' seminar at the New Girls' School in Bern. In addition to his teaching activities, he was the organist and director of the church choir in Muri-Gümligen and the conductor of several choirs such as the teachers choirs Murten - Erlach - Laupen and Seeland . Until 1983 he was a member of the central board of the Swiss Church Choral Association .

He was married to Dora geb. Minnig.
