Swissbib
Swissbib is the publicly accessible general catalog of the Swiss university libraries and the Swiss National Library . In addition, selected databases from retro. seals , ZORA (Zurich Open Repository and Archive), the Swiss Poster Collection , the Swiss Literature Archive and other digitized archive material.
Swissbib thus comprises the data of around 900 institutions from all language regions in Switzerland. In addition to the main functionality of the search engine, swissbib serves as a repository for bibliographic metadata from eleven Swiss library catalogs and thus comes closest to a Swiss bibliographic database .
In addition to the public function as a search engine, it serves as a data supplier for WorldCat and Kartenportal.CH (another e-lib.ch project) and as a search service provider for the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalog (KVK) and various mobile applications.
Swissbib is a cooperation project between the Swiss university libraries and the Swiss National Library under the direction of the Basel University Library . It is organized as part of the Swiss innovation and cooperation program e-lib.ch: Swiss Electronic Library .
The development of swissbib started in 2008. The service has been online since January 2010 and is constantly being further developed.
swissbib Basel Bern
On the technological basis of swissbib, the university libraries of Basel and Bern developed the swissbib Basel Bern research tool . Since January 6, 2014, swissbib Basel Bern has been the main search interface for the University Libraries of Basel and Bern.
Swissbib Basel Bern is a research tool that can be used to search for books, magazine articles, e-books and e-journals on a PC or mobile device. Where possible, swissbib Basel Bern leads directly to the full texts.
The results of the search are presented in two hit lists:
- In “Books & more” you can find the contents of the catalogs of the University Libraries Basel and Bern (including the Exact Sciences Library), their network libraries, the libraries of the Bern University of Applied Sciences and Northwestern Switzerland based in Bern or Basel as well as the Swiss National Library and the library of the Swiss National Bank in Bern.
- An external index of electronic media is included in "Articles & more" (Summon by SerialsSolutions).
The search can be refined using facets and what is found sorted by relevance, year, author or title.
