The Dimokratiki Aristera (DIMAR, Greek Δημοκρατική Αριστερά (ΔΗΜΑΡ), Democratic Left ) is a moderately left-wing Greek party . After she made it into the Greek parliament twice in 2012, she failed in January 2015 in an electoral alliance with the green party Prasini, clearly at the 3 percent hurdle . In September 2015 she ran for election in the electoral alliance with PASOK and accordingly moved back into parliament.

founding

DIMAR emerged as a split from the more radical coalition of the left of movements and ecology Synaspismos in June 2010, when 550 members of the moderate wing of Synaspismos, including four members of parliament, left the left-wing coalition.

Principles

The programmatic principles of the Dimokratiki Aristera are:

The party wants to keep Greece in the European Union and the euro zone.

History of the party since the 2012 election

After the election in May 2012 , she agreed to enter into a coalition with PASOK and Nea Dimokratia . However, DIMAR stipulated that SYRIZA should also be involved, which is why the coalition talks failed. The chairman of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras , refused because the austerity measures had been rejected by the people through the elections.

While the former governing parties PASOK and (since November 2011) Nea Dimokratia advocated the continuation of the austerity policy , the other parties ( SYRIZA , KKE , Anexartiti Ellines , Chrysi Avgi ) resolutely opposed it, DIMAR took on a mediating position. After the party had rejected a coalition with ND and PASOK in May 2012, unless Syriza also participated, Kouvelis did not completely rule out such a coalition in the subsequent election campaign. After the election in June 2012 , DIMAR agreed with ND and PASOK to support the government led by Andonis Samaras , but without providing ministers themselves and on the condition that the agreements with the EU, ECB and IMF are negotiated in the sense of a moderation.

After Prime Minister Samaras ordered the closure of the state radio and television company ERT without consulting his coalition partners, DIMAR decided on June 21, 2013 to leave the government coalition. The non-party Minister for Administrative Reform, Andonis Manitakis, and the Justice Minister Andonis Roupakiotis, each nominated by DIMAR, announced their resignation.

In the 2014 European elections , the party received only 1.20% of the vote and therefore no mandates. For the early Greek parliamentary elections in January 2015 , DIMAR entered into an electoral alliance with the green party Prasini , but clearly failed with 0.49 percent of the vote at the 3 percent hurdle . At the 4th party conference in June 2015, Thanasis Theocharopoulos was elected chairman, Fotis Kouvelis was no longer available for the office.

The party chairmen Theocharopoulos and Fofi Gennimata from PASOK declared the cooperation of both parties for the early parliamentary election on September 20, 2015 on a common list of candidates as Dimokratiki Symbarataxi (Δημοκρατική Συμπαράταξη).
