Oberwollanig Church
The Roman Catholic Church of Oberwollanig in the municipality of Villach is dedicated to St. Laurentius . The branch church belongs to the parish of Sankt Nikolai .
Building description
The small church consists of a Romanesque nave and a Gothic choir from the 14th century. It has an eastern ridge turret with a pointed helmet and a western porch. A Romanesque window has been preserved on the south wall. The pointed arch windows in the choir have tracery noses . The roof and tower are covered and clad with stone slabs. On the southern outer wall is a frieze block with an animal relief, which comes from a Roman tomb.
The wooden field ceiling in the single-bay nave , dated 1514, is painted with perspective grids and has tendril patterns in the frame strips. A flattened triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir. A six-part fan vault on consoles spans the choir with a 5/8 end . In a niche to the right of the altar there is a Roman epitaph with the names of local people. The popular wall and vault paintings in the choir date from the first quarter of the 16th century. The martyrdom of St. Lawrence is depicted on the north wall, and the Last Judgment on the south wall. In the vaulted areas, next to the evangelist symbols, there are Saints Catherine , Helena , Leonhard , Kunigunde and Michael as well as angels.
Facility
The high altar with twisted columns and acanthus decorations was created in 1706 and shows St. Laurentius in the altar sheet. The original, late Gothic pulpit was made around 1530 and is now in the St. Bartlmä Chapel in Wilten . The former Magdalene Altar is now in the Heiligenkreuz Church in Villach . The bell dates from the 12th century.
