Fofi Gennimata

Fotini "Fofi" Gennimata ( Greek Φωτεινή "Φώφη" Γεννηματά , born November 17, 1964 in Athens ) is a Greek politician . She is the chairman of the social democratic party PASOK .

Fofi Gennimata was born in the Athens district of Ambelokipi as the daughter of Georgios Gennimatas (1939–1994), a founding member of PASOK. Her father served from 1984 to 1994 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou as Minister of Economics, Labor, Health and Interior.

Fofi Gennimata studied Political and Administrative Sciences at the University of Athens and graduated in 1987. She got involved in PASOK's youth and student organizations early on.

She was first elected as a member of the Greek parliament for PASOK in 2000 . From 2003 to 2007 she was Super-Prefect of the Athens-Piraeus Prefecture, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health in 2009/2010, Deputy Minister of Education in 2010/2011, Deputy Minister of the Interior in 2011/12 and Deputy Minister of Defense from 2012 to 2015.

On June 14, 2015, she was elected chairman of PASOK after the party had dropped to less than five percent of the vote in the previous elections in January and Evangelos Venizelos stepped down from the chair.
