Njepila, son of the daughter of the shepherd Slabke, grew up in very poor circumstances and often went hungry. The famine years 1771/1772 fell into his childhood, during which, according to one of his writings, he also ate clay to satisfy hunger. As a young man he repaired his parents' farm and gradually became a semi- farmer .

In the winter months Njepila learned to read and write from the village tailor. Writing became a personal joy in his life. This resulted in more than 30 booklets, mostly with autobiographical or religious content. The greater part, however, was given to him by his family in his grave. Only five manuscripts have been preserved that the grinder priest Matej Handrik later in the Journal of Maćica Serbska published. He withheld a few larger autobiographical passages because they described the uncomfortable relationships between Njepila and his daughter-in-law, who was still alive at the time. In particular, these are the life descriptions of Hanzo Njepila's old age. Hélène Brijnen made the corresponding text available in 2004 in the series of publications of the Sorbian Institute .

The Njepilas farm was preserved in its shape and is now used as a local museum. The Njepila-Hof e. After the death of the last owner, V. made a contribution to the security and later reconstruction of the farm at a time when Njepila was forgotten.
