The Nowy Casnik ( German : Neue Zeitung ) is a weekly newspaper that publishes its articles in Lower Sorbian and German. It is the successor to the first Lower Sorbian newspaper called Bramborski Serbski Casnik , which was first published in 1848. Nowy Casnik was banned at the time of National Socialism. In 1947 the newspaper was re-established, but initially as a supplement to the Upper Sorbian newspaper Nowa doba , until it was published again as an independent weekly in 1954.

The current editor-in-chief is Viktor Zakar, who succeeded Gregor Wieczorek (Grzegorz Wieczorek) in May 2020 . Before that, Horst Adam was the editor-in-chief of the only newspaper that appeared weekly in Lower Sorbian and German.

distribution

The circulation of Nowy Casnik was 1,100 copies in 2004 and 800 copies in 2013. In addition to a subscription, you can buy Nowy Casnik in Cottbus and some of the neighboring towns to the north.
