content

Tanguera tells the story of the young French woman Giselle, who arrived in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires with one of the first waves of European immigration at the beginning of the 20th century. Lured into the South American port by Gaudencio, a crook who has dedicated himself to the drug trade and pimping, Giselle meets the dock worker Lorenzo on arrival, who falls in love with her at first sight. In order to survive, the penniless Giselle initially only has the path to prostitution and dancing in one of the run-down nightclubs run by Gaudencio and strictly controlled by his men. The once impeccable girl becomes a "Tanguera" devoted to tango - and ultimately the celebrated star of the cabaret . Meanwhile, Lorenzo does everything in his power to win Giselle and her love. At first he does not care about the laws of the underworld and therefore pays little heed to the villains. But he changes, becomes a tango dancer himself, practices knife fighting and adapts to the environment. There is a knife fight in which Gaudencio is defeated by Lorenzo, who does not kill him. In the final united with Giselle, Lorenzo is stabbed from behind by him. At the end of the piece, a new "Giselle" arrives at the port. The game starts over.

concept

In Tanguera, dance and music serve the plot and are closely linked to the story. Unlike in a number revue , music and dance are closely linked to the dramaturgy .

music and dance

In addition to newly written pieces, the musical directors Gerardo Gardelin and the bandoneonist Adrober have also reworked and rearranged some scores of well-known tangos such as La Cumparsita , Derecho Viejo , Danzarin and El Choclo .
